What is Pure water?

You may have heard your window cleaner mention pure water or you have probably seen it mentioned a few times on here, but what is it? Is it just a term we use to make it all sound magical?

To cut a long story short. No, pure water is exactly what it sounds like.

When you run your tap at home for a nice refreshing glass of cold water, regardless of whether you live in a hard or soft water area, you’re filling that glass with natural minerals and added chemicals that ensure your water is clean and safe for human consumption. Although on a warm summer day, with a few ice cubes chucked in, that glass of water may be just what you need, it is only the beginning for a water fed pole window cleaner. These minerals and chemicals applied to glass would dry leaving small white spots and runs down your glass which is both unacceptable and unsightly.

So how is pure water produced?

Tap water initially flows through a series of pre filters:

STAGE 1 - Micron Sediment. Removes Dirt, Sand and Rust.

STAGE 2 - A Granular Activated Carbon Filter. Removes Free Chlorine, Odour, Organic Contaminants, Pesticides and Chemicals.

STAGE 3 - A Carbon Block Filter. Removes Trihalomethanes, Pesticides, Volatile Organic Chemicals and 99.95% of Giardia and Cryptosporidium Cysts.

It is then fed under high pressure into a Reverse osmosis (RO) semipermeable membrane to remove ions, molecules and larger particles.

Once complete, between 90-99% of the total dissolved solids (TDS) should be removed, it’s now time for the final stage…De-ionising.

The near pure water now goes through a polishing stage where it is run through ion-exchange resin. These resins are small plastic beads that are composed of organic polymer chains that have charged functional groups built into the resin bead. Each functional group has either a fixed positive (Anion) or negative (Cation) charge.

The end result is pure water (H20).

This is checked by the use of a TDS meter, for optimal results you will require a reading of between 000ppm* - 010ppm*

The water is now at a perfect stage for window cleaning as all contaminants have been removed, meaning you will have crystal clear glass with no spotting, streaks or smears.
